AGATE SNUFF BOTTLE
18TH-19TH CENTURY
6.5 cm high (without stopper)
The bottle is of compressed ovoid form surmounted with a straight neck with concave lip, and supported on a slightly splayed foot. The translucent stone is of light honey tone with caramel and flecked dark brown areas, which are skilfully carved in low relief to depict a gourd releasing two bats. The coral stopper is carved in the form of a small coiled dragon and mounted with a gilt metal collar.
