BAMBOO LIBATION CUP

17TH-18TH CENTURY

9.5 cm high

The cup is of spreading form and crafted from a single piece of bamboo. The exterior is naturalistically carved in high relief with gnarled branches of pine tree. The branches are carved in openwork and the pine needles undercut indicating depth. A single line border encircles the mouth rim. The base is formed from the natural bamboo segment. The material has patinated to a warm tone and smooth surface.
