
SMALL CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL BOX AND COVER
18TH CENTURY
4 cm high, 8.1 cm diameter
The round box is supported on a slightly splayed foot with gilded rim, the rounded sides rising to a raised gilded band to fit the cover. The exterior is decorated in thin copper wire with scrolling lotus below a ruyi head border, filled in with green, blue, white, yellow and red enamel against a turquoise-blue ground. The domed cover with gilded rim is decorated with a repeated motif all around a central stylised flower head. The base and the interior of the box and cover are inlaid with a thick layer of turquoise-blue enamel.
