HUANGHUALI BRUSH POT

18TH CENTURY

19.5 cm high

The brush pot is of cylindrical form, the gently waisted sides slightly tapering towards the foot. The concave base is set with a central plug. The wood is of warm amber tone with characteristic natural grain.

The simplicity of material and form of the present brush pot was highly favoured among the scholarly elite of the period. Brush pots of this large size would hold heavy brushes, scroll paintings and other attributes.
