LAC-BURGAUTÉ STEMCUP

LATE 17TH-18TH CENTURY

7.8 cm high, 8.7 cm diameter

The bowl, with rounded sides and flaring rim, is supported on a tall foot with widely splayed base. The exterior is covered with a layer of black lacquer inlaid with mother-of-pearl to depict a continuous garden scene with three figures below a full moon. The scene is framed within two decorative borders, while the foot and lower part of the bowl are decorated with scattered floral ornaments. A third decorative border adorns the lower foot. The interior and base are mounted with silvered metal.
