KO-AKAE SQUARE DISH
CHONGZHEN PERIOD (1628-1644)
19.5 cm wide
The square dish rises from a short foot to spreading sides with an everted rim with indented corners. The interior is painted in underglaze blue and overglaze enamels with a square panel enclosing two phoenixes against a cash-motif ground iron-red. The sides of the interior are painted with sprays of pine, bamboo, peony and plum blossom below a key-fret border in iron-red on the everted rim. The underside is covered with glaze. The rim of the dish is dressed brown.
