SANCAI GLAZED JAR
TANG DYNASTY (618-907)
27 cm high
The ovoid jar tapers towards the splayed foot and rises to a bulbous body surmounted by a short cylindrical neck. The shoulders are encircled with a band of concentric lines below four elegantly modelled loop handles issuing from the neck. The exterior is freely splashed with bright amber and green glaze running halfway down the unglazed pinkish buff body.
