Sancai ewer.jpg

TANG DYNASTY (618-907)

5.8 cm high

The ewer is supported on a slightly splayed foot, the globular body rising to a waisted neck with a flaring rim. A short tubular spout is set on one side of the shoulder, the other side is applied with a double-strap handle. The exterior is covered with a sancai glaze of green, amber and cream splashes, unevenly stopping over halfway the body to reveal the unglazed material.

Formerly in a Dutch private collection
