TIXI LACQUER BOX AND COVER
YUAN-MING DYNASTY, 14TH-15TH CENTURY
17.2 cm diameter, 6.4 cm high
The lacquer box is of circular form, the cover and base flattened and carved with a ‘pommel scroll' motif. The design is carved at an angle, showing the alternating layers of red and black lacquer, the lustrous surface smoothly polished, the interior of the box and cover lacquered black.
